Let us step you through this EXAMPLE of what a typical buying experience is like when ordering a Quarter Side or Half Side of beef from Fox Farms.
PRELIMINARY PLANNING
-
Is there enough space in your freezer for your order?
Customers who purchase beef in bulk most likely have invested in an upright, stand alone freezer or a chest freezer which will hold up to 100 pieces of beef cuts plus multiple one-pound packages of ground beef.
-
Can I afford buying freezer beef in a larger quantity?
While it is convenient to have your freezer filled with quality beef, it is an investment upon purchase. Proper budgeting and planning will be helpful to make this a seamless transaction. By buying in bulk, you will eliminate the need to run to the local grocery store as you plan your meals which include beef as your protein. The estimated cost of a beef purchase for a Half Side of beef is explained in further detail below…please keep reading

How much time does it take to process my beef order?
When placing an order with Fox Farms for a Quarter of Half side of beef, it will take approximately three weeks from the time the animal is ready for processing to delivery to your location.
Once you have confirmed that you have room in a freezer large enough to hold your order AND that your budget can comfortably sustain the purchase of these cuts you are ready to follow the steps listed below. When ordering a Half Side of Beef, you will receive approximately 90 cuts of beef (roasts, ribs, steaks, etc.) AND 80-100 pounds of ground beef. The number of cuts and the amount of ground beef is cut in half when ordering a Quarter Side of Beef…approximately 45 roasts, ribs, steaks, etc. and 40-50 pounds of ground beef.
PLACE AN ORDER FOR A SIDE OF BEEF (QUARTER OR HALF SIDE OF BEEF)
STEP NO. 1: Contact Fox Farms by calling 724.840.4114 and communicate your order specifications (i.e., Quarter Side or Half Side of beef). Obtain the name and phone number of the processing company, so that you can customize your beef order to your specifications. You may also communicate your ordering needs by sending an email message to foxfamilyfarms.4g@gmail.com
STEP NO. 2: Contact the Beef Processor (Fox Farms typically uses USDA Weimer Meats in Bradenville, PA). Customers have the option to customize the types of cuts for their beef order or they may select a traditional cutting. The staff at Weimer Meats is exceptional when helping customers with these specifications.
STEP NO. 3: Fox Farms will schedule a mutually convenient delivery date and location once your order is ready for your freezer. Free delivery is available for your convenience.

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO CALCULATE THE BUDGET TO PURCHASE A HALF SIDE OF BEEF
Fun Fact about Fox Farms…our animals on average, weigh in with a hanging weight of approximately 800 lbs. (TOTAL; WHOLE ANIMAL).
For the sake of this example, then, let’s use 800 as our hanging weight (reported by USDA Weimer). Again, since this is an example, we will make it easy and say that each Half SIDE (two halves make a whole) weighs in at 400 lbs.
In this example, Fox Farms has two customers (one for each Half Side). Essentially, both customers (in this example) will receive the same number of cuts as well as the same amount of ground beef. Each customer will receive the beef from their side which weighed 400 hanging weight lbs.
Costs for each customer are computed as follows:
400 H. Wt lbs x $4.15/H. Wt. lb. = $1,660. This is the cost for all of the beef cuts contained in this order.
USDA Weimer will charge approximately $600 to cut, wrap, and freeze the order
Total Cost for a Half Side of Beef with a Hanging Weight of 400 lbs. is $2,260
A second Fun Fact is that customers who order a Quarter Side of Beef receive half as many cuts as listed above (approx. 45 cuts and 40-50 pounds of ground beef); the total cost of a Quarter Side of Beef including processing using this example then is estimated to be $1,170
Another Fun Fact about ordering is that creativity allows our customers to include more family members or friends in the ordering process. If the size of your freezer, or the size of your household and/or the size of your budget cannot quite sustain an entire Half or Quarter Side of Beef purchase, you are welcome to partner with a trusted relative or friend to share the order. By sharing the order, all parties involved gain an increased amount of quality beef in their freezer and the bottom line cost is divided by the number of participants on the order. The price per hanging weight pound is based on the quantity of beef being sold, not necessarily the number of customers. Once it is determined if you are buying a half or a quarter, the cost is calculated based on $4.15/H.Wt. lb for a Half Side and $4.35 for a Quarter Side.
